
Research Assistant Professor
Dallin Tavoian, PhD, is a Research Assistant Professor and clinical exercise physiologist at the University of Arizona with expertise spanning cardiovascular, respiratory, neuromuscular, and aging physiology. He earned his PhD in Translational Biomedical Sciences at Ohio University and completed postdoctoral training in the Arizona Respiratory Neurophysiology Laboratory. His research seeks to develop accessible, evidence-based exercise interventions that preserve strength and physical independence, improve vascular function, and reduce chronic-disease risk across the lifespan. His PubMed-indexed publications include randomized studies comparing resistance training, high-intensity interval training, and moderate-intensity aerobic exercise in older adults, as well as methodological studies of muscle mass and neuromuscular performance. More recently, his work has focused on high-resistance inspiratory muscle training as a time-efficient strategy for reducing blood pressure and improving endothelial function in adults with hypertension, obstructive sleep apnea, and type 2 diabetes. In addition to his scholarship, Dr. Tavoian has extensive experience managing complex clinical trials and has held operational leadership responsibilities within the NIH RECOVER initiative investigating the biological and clinical consequences of Long COVID.
